They’re also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This quintet from Michigan has been staying up late at all the coolest festivals and stopping to play your favorite clubs and theaters across America for 11 years now. align="center">David Bromberg

Born in Philadelphia in 1945, “as a kid I listened to whatever was on the radio,” says Bromberg. “I discovered Pete Seeger, The Weavers and Bill Monroe, Muddy Waters and the Chicago blues.” Bromberg began guitar at 13, later enrolling in Columbia University. Greenwich Village in the mid-’60s drew David to the coffeehouses where he could learn from the best, including the Reverend Gary Davis.Bromberg’s playing earned him employment as a guitarist for recording sessions on hundreds of records by Bob Dylan (New Morning, Self Portrait, Dylan), Link Wray, The Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Carly Simon and others. A successful spot at the Isle of Wight Festival led to Columbia Records. His 1971 debut included “The Holdup,” a collaboration with George Harrison. Four members of the Grateful Dead, including Jerry Garcia, played on his next two albums. Despite jubilant concerts and albums, Bromberg found himself exhausted. “I decided to change the direction of my life,” he explains. David dissolved his band in 1980, and he and wife Nancy Josephson moved to Chicago where David attended the Kenneth Warren School of Violin Making. “After too many Chicago winters,” David and Nancy moved to Wilmington, Del., joining the city’s artist-in-residence program and where David could establish David Bromberg Fine Violins. Weekly jam sessions rekindled Bromberg’s desire to make music. With Try Me One More Time, his 2007 Grammy-nominated solo album, David recommenced touring with his quartet and the David Bromberg Big Band. In 2011 David completed Use Me, which features David collaborating with friends like John Hiatt, Levon Helm, Los Lobos, Tim O’Brien, Vince Gill, Widespread Panic, Dr. John, Keb’ Mo’ and Linda Ronstadt. David spent 2012 touring the US, Canada, Australia, Hawaii, Japan & Italy. David’s newest release, Only Slightly Mad, is scheduled for August 2013 release and was produced by three-time Grammy winning producer Larry Campbell.

Larry Campbell
A respected multi-instrumentalist, studio musician and sideman since the 1970s, Larry Campbell moves freely between rock, blues, country, folk and Celtic styles, playing guitar, fiddle, mandolin, pedal steel, cittern, dobro and banjo. Campbell produced Levon Helm’s three consecutive Grammy-winning records, 2007′s Dirt Farmer, 2009′s Electric Dirt and 2011′s Ramble at the Ryman. In 2005, Campbell released his own solo CD, an acoustic guitar tour de force called Rooftops. In 2008, Campbell was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his instrumental work from the Americana Music Association. As a sideman, Larry is probably best known for his eight years (1997-2004) in Bob Dylan’s band. Before Dylan, Campbell toured with other artists including Cyndi Lauper, K. D. Lang, Rosanne Cash, Richard Shindell, Buddy and Julie Miller, Levon Helm and Little Feat.

Since his departure from Dylan’s band, he has made guest appearances with an impressive range of entertainers including Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris and recorded with artists ranging from Judy Collins and Sheryl Crow to B. B. King, Willie Nelson and The Black Crowes. In 2003, he produced the acclaimed Diamond Jubilation for The Dixie Hummingbirds. He played guitar and wrote several songs for the record, including “When I Go Away,” covered by Levon Helm on Electric Dirt. In 2005, Campbell produced Willie Nelson’s version of “He Was A Friend Of Mine” for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack. Campbell produced Levon Helm’s rendition of “You Better Move On” for a CD to benefit the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, released in 2008. Later that year, he produced Sentimental Streak for Catherine Russell and River of Time for Jorma Kaukonen, released in early 2009. On the Imus Ranch Record II, Campbell produced Helm’s version of Bob Dylan’s “It Takes A Lot to Laugh (It Takes A Train to Cry).” Most recently Campbell has produced Wood and Stone for Donna the Buffalo’s Tara Nevins and the legendary band Hot Tuna’s first studio album in more than 20 years, Steady As She Goes. Larry recently completed the newest David Bromberg band album, Only Slightly Mad, slated for August 2013 releases.

The Soviet

Upcoming Shows
<guid

But unlike any forgotten dialect or lost tongue, the music of The Soviet translates loud and true. With ambitious guitars soaring over driving basslines and thunderous drums, this undiscovered gem of an indie rock quartet hailing from northwest NJ has created a handful of songs that will unquestionably place them in the midst of the music industry’s most-buzzed-about bands list.
<p

When Perna went on a trip to Central America via a local youth group shortly thereafter, he made a close connection with fellow traveler Alex Long who was then brought in on bass. When the two returned stateside, longtime acquaintance Kevin Boris (drums) was recruited to round out the group. Impressive demo recordings soon followed; these included the song “Monotony” and its accompanying music video which in one day alone garnered over 60,000 views on YouTube and a front page highlight on Reddit.

In addition to developing a passionate local fanbase, The Soviet also scored high-profile gigs opening for the likes of artists such as Anberlin, Andrew McMahon, and twenty | one | pilots – plus a slot on the 2013 Idobi Meltdown Festival outside of Washington D.C. where they supported Circa Survive and Minus The Bear.

In early 2013, Perna began crafting the instrumentation and lyrics that would eventually form the band’s first true studio recording – Dead Language. From intimate writing sessions in the New Jersey farmhouse where The Soviet maintains its home base, the band began to flesh out the songs bit by bit. Seeking out a like-minded producer, the band was introduced to Greg Dunn. Although mainly known as the vocalist and guitarist for Triple Crown Records artists Moving Mountains, Dunn is also an accomplished producer with several albums to his credit, including those from his own band. “There was a definite musical chemistry between Greg and the band,” says Perna. “He has such a strong background in atmospheric and high energy music, ideas were constantly flying around and it was a really fresh collaborative effort.”

The recording sessions – set at Telegraph Studios in Poughkeepsie, NY – resulted in the four song Dead Language EP. The tracks showcase a band traversing along the line from youth to maturity. With all band members under the age of 20, the playfulness of Perna’s lyrics somehow relay a youthful vibrance while Brown’s penetrating guitar hooks impart a deep sense of understanding far more complex than musicians of his age should be able to display. This musical combination, along with the band’s overall energy and Dunn’s production wizardry, lifts The Soviet and the Dead Language EP into heights rarely seen from a band that is unsigned and under the radar. That being said, once these new songs are out in the open, few expect The Soviet to fit into those categories for very much longer.

Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds

Events

Upcoming Shows
<guid

Just before his high school years, however, he developed a passion for pop music and the electric guitar, and soon was writing songs and performing with his own band near his New Jersey Shore home doing opening slots for local hero Bruce Springsteen, beginning a performing career that has continued ever since. College followed, with extensive musical studies in both classical and jazz composition and theory at Rutgers University, and private jazz guitar study, with the help of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, with the late, great jazz guitarist, Harry Leahey. With a gentle warmth and wisdom well beyond her years, the consummate artist has an uncompromising vision of herself and her music that is refreshing and rare. “I believe if you stand for something, stand your ground; stand it strong and stand it proud.” It is this fortitude and courageous spirit that resonated with millions night after night when the 2010 American Idol runner up took the stage. There is a sincerity and authenticity about her that just can’t be manufactured. The same can be said about her musical prowess, which has all the markings of a creative force to reckon with who is in it for the long haul. Her rich amalgam of blues, country, folk and rock makes her one of the most dynamic young voices in music to come along in years. She has performed alongside everyone from Harry Connick Jr., Joe Cocker, and Alanis Morrisette, to Michael Franti, John Popper and BB King. All That For This, Crystal Bowersox’s sophomore release and Shanachie Entertainment debut, is a powerful testament to her talents as both a singer and songwriter, as well as her unerring musical vision. She confides, “I am more proud of this body of work then anything I’ve done before. If this music can move someone to tears or makes them smile, then I have really accomplished something. That’s all I can ask for.”
<p

It is the manifestation of her own womanhood and enlightenment won through hard fought battles, failures and triumphs. It is the belief that listening to your own inner voice will lead you where you need to be. “I am learning not to judge music and myself so harshly and to not allow myself to be swayed by other’s judgment. I’m trying to listen to my own<br

Until now, the world has witnessed only a portion of Crystal Bowersox’s talent, which was channeled through mainstream pop expectations on her debut release, Farmer’s Daughter. With the highly anticipated release of All That For This (March 26, 2013), produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Sheryl Crow, John Lee Hooker, Raul Malo), Bowersox exposes a new dimension of her music.<br

It’s the next chapter of my life.” Bowersox’s new recording is a finely crafted and beautifully arranged tapestry that illustrates the dynamic<br

But before they became the corporate machine that they are sometimes referred to as today, they earned this title by wowing audiences worldwide with some of the most electrifying performances in the history of rock-n-roll. Beginning with the recording of the classic album ‘Beggar’s Banquet’ in the late 60’s, the Rolling Stones would enter into what is widely considered to be their most creative period that would continue right up through the release of the album ‘Exile On Main St.’ You will be amazed at the way The Glimmer Twins are able to recreate the look and feel of The Rolling Stones during this period and beyond.
<p

By combining the raw energy of the band with the more sophisticated amplification systems for the times, The Stones were able to connect with their mass audiences in sold-out arenas on a whole new level. The Glimmer Twins will give you a close-up view and feeling of what it was like to be in the audience at one of these historical performances.

By 1972 their live performances were creating such frenzy, that many venues needed to utilize a lottery system in order to fairly distribute tickets because of the overwhelming demand. In subsequent years, the audiences kept increasing in size to the point where The Stones were selling out stadiums across the world. Everyone wanted to experience the sensation of seeing The Rolling Stones perform. What makes The Glimmer Twins such a special attraction is their ability to capture the raw energy of the most electrifying performances throughout The Rolling Stones career, and present it in such a way that audiences are able to experience the same sensation of what it was like to be at a Stones concert in their heyday. Because of the uncanny resemblances to Mick Jagger & Keith Richards in their prime coupled with the special attention given to the minutest details both musically and visually, The Glimmer Twins are a cut above all other tribute bands on the circuit today.

<a

It was a magical night and as the stars came out in our minds we took the first steps on the path that led to the creation of “Which Way World”. We were many days lost in creativity beneath the mighty redwoods and emerged into the California sunshine with ten songs sown together with the threads spun from our common love of the music and spirit of our friendship. In a twist of poetic irony we were able to secure the incredible talents of our good friends Keith Moseley and Jason Hann to be our rhythm section, the String Cheese Incident being the reason we were all at Hornings in the first place those four years ago! /> with Special Guest Legendary FM DJ/ Music Historian Pete Fornatale

Venerable folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step will perform a very special evening of music: their exceptional renditions of The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook with special guest host Pete Fornatale interspersing commentary and personal anecdotes from interviews with Paul & Artie, plus many selections from their own 40-year canon of Aztec Two-Step originals.

About The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook:
When Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman, the critically acclaimed duo Aztec Two-Step, burst on the scene in 1972 with their Elektra Records debut, they were reviewed as having the “intellectual lyricism” and “ethereal harmonies” of their legendary predecessors, Simon & Garfunkel.

Renowned for bringing the folk/rock music of the 1960s into the ’70s and beyond, Aztec Two Step continues to be one of acoustic music’s most respected and enduring acts. While the duo possess a rich musical legacy of their own, it only makes sense that they would choose to interpret and perform the timeless songs and harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel.

Performing the Songbook on their own since 2005, Aztec Two-Step joined forces with legendary broadcaster Pete Fornatale in an expanded version of the show after the 2007 publication of Pete’s book “Simon and Garfunkel’s Bookends.”

In 2008, the duo released Time It Was- The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook (Red Engine Records) a live album of the Songbook show featuring Mr. Fornatale, who provides commentary and insights based on his interviews with Simon & Garfunkel.

About Aztec Two-Step:
Aztec Two-Step’s name comes from a Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem, and since 1971 Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman have been writing and performing songs that helped make their generation’s musical memories. The recording from their self-titled debut album (Elektra Records), The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarty was the first song written about Jack Kerouac’s iconic American novel, “On The Road.”

In 1987 Living in America received the New York Music Award for Best Folk Album and was named in Billboard’s year-end critic’s poll. Praised in major media outlets such as Rolling Stone, and having appeared on numerous TV and radio shows such as David Letterman, King Biscuit Flour Hour, and World Café Live, in 1999 Aztec Two-Step was the subject of a documentary that aired on PBS.

Of their 2005 release, Days of Horses, the Boston Globe said “fans of the duo’s harmony-driven tunes and easygoing acoustic guitar riffs will recognize their James Taylor-meets-Simon & Garfunkel sound. What’s new is the mood. This album sits back on its haunches as Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman look back wistfully at American pop culture and their own ride through it.”

2007 saw several hallmark events for the duo. In June, Aztec Two-Step performed “The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarty (On The Road)” at a very special Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival as the author’s hometown marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of On The Road. Also In June 2007, Real Simple, a popular national lifestyle magazine, named Aztec Two-Step one of the top five classic folk albums joining work by Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs. Rhino Records released Forever Changing-The Golden Age of Elektra Records 1963-1973, a five-CD box set that tells the story of this landmark record label and the music that defined an era. The collection includes Aztec Two-Step’s “The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarty (On The Road).”

In early 2012, the duo anticipates the official release of Cause & Effect, a new studio CD to commemorate their 40th Anniversary. It is a collection of 16 songs of social significance produced by Paul Guzzone and featuring long-time bassist Fred Holman. The album is a combination of re-worked previously recorded songs, as well as newly mined material.

After 40 years, Aztec Two-Step continues to impress audiences with intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar, and inspiring harmonies, and remains one of acoustic music’s most popular and enduring acts.

About Pete Fornatale:
One of the architects of progressive FM radio in the 60’s, Pete Fornatale he has one of the most recognizable voices in rock radio. He has been a fixture on the New York dial for four decades, starting his career at WFUV in 1963 and then moving on to WNEW-FM in 1969 and K-Rock in 1989. Currently back at WFUV, his celebrated long-running program, “Mixed Bag,” airs on Saturdays in New York, and nationally on XM satellite radio.
<p
